2-part Workshop “Self-Care – Why it is so difficult (and so important)”

Wednesdays 3 and 10 February 2021, from 19:30 to 21.30.

online (via Zoom)

with Berenice Boxler, certified mindfulness teacher

Do you regularly feel exhausted from all the things you have to do and plan? Do you care about children, partners, friends or family members, and try to help them as much as possible? Do you discipline yourself to get everything done that is expected of you – and feel like there is no energy and time left for you and your own needs?

When life gets rough – and we don’t need a pandemic to feel stressed and stretched thin – enough sleep, good nutrition, pleasure and downtime seem negotiable, too time-consuming and secondary. After all, there are so many more important things to take care of, right? We are so used to taking care of other people and to be of help and of support that it feels natural to us. Very often we have been raised in the spirit of esteeming other people’s needs to be more central than ours. You are not alone. The problem is, we usually forget to take care of the most important person in our life: we ourselves.

On an airplane you are asked to “put on your own oxygen mask first before tending to others.” Or to say it with the words of Bréné Brown: “You cannot give on running empty.” But why is it so hard to look after ourselves? How can mindfulness help in treating ourselves with as much care, affection and respect as we try to treat the people we hold dear?

In this 2-part workshop we will look at the importance of self-care, what it can look like for each person, what stands in the way and how we can regularly fill our energy and well-being tanks. In the second part we will take a closer look on how to take care of ourselves when life is really hard and dive into the topic of self-compassion and nurturing our heart and body.

For whom?

This workshop is suitable for beginners as well as for practitioners of mindfulness. If you are interested in levelling up your own well-being and prioritizing care and nurturing for yourself – which, by the way, is the greatest gift you can give to other people – then you are very welcome to join this interactive and nourishing workshop. We will evaluate, reflect, meditate, discuss and learn from each other.

In this workshop you will learn to:

  • Understand the importance of self-care and self-compassion and how it is anything but selfish
  • Identify your obstacles to self-care and learn to reframe your inner commentary
  • Discover and discuss many different ways of self-care
  • Find you own recipe to greater well-being
  • Practice compassion for yourself when life is difficult
  • Feel more connected to yourself and your needs
  • Grow more confident in protecting your needs in everyday life

What to expect

  • Guided meditations and reflections
  • Teaching on the brain and its habits to keep us going (even when the body needs a pause)
  • Deep dive into self-care and what it can look like in practical terms
