About this retreat day

About this retreat day

Many people think that their happiness depends on external factors such as money, professional success, love or even the weather. But what if you could learn to be happy, independently of what life throws at you? Would it not be wonderful to know how to restore your happiness when something unwanted happens and to enjoy the good things more fully?

Since our brain has the tendency to focus on negative thoughts it is important to learn how to shift towards more positivity. In this one-day retreat we focus on meditations that help us cultivate joy and gratitude. It might sound strange to cultivate joy in the midst of a huge political crisis but in times of these it is even more important to know what your resources are , to cultivate new ones and learn how to take them in.

Using the science of positive neuroplasticity

We will use practices that can help you to bring more joy, peace and fulfilment into your life by using the method of positive neuroplasticity developed by neuroscientist Dr. Rick Hanson to transform ordinary day-to-day experiences into inner strengths, such as resilience, self-confidence, compassion, joy and a feeling of being loved. The mindful internalisation of such psychological resources can help us deal with feelings of anxiety, depression, anger, addiction, loss and shame, and support our wellbeing, emotional healing and resilience.

What will this day of joy bring to me?

A day of mindfulness allows you to take a deeper dive, so you can refresh and deepen your practice. This can help you reconnect with meditation and boost your motivation to continue with it on a daily basis. You can also feel the benefit of meditating in a group.

We will practice a mix of different forms of meditation, mindful walking and stretching, to bring your mind to rest and to tune into what really matters to you. The focus will be on positive neuroplasticity meditations boosting gratitude, joy and contentment

The day will mostly take place in silence, with English instructions given by the teacher. We also encourage you to refrain from using your phone.

Important information on your mental well-being and silent retreats

While meditation retreats can be very nourishing; they do require sustained meditation practice throughout your time there. This also demands some stability of psychological health and can be triggering for some people.

Have you experienced significant trauma or psychiatric illness, or are your currently struggling with your mental health such as with anxiety, depression, or burnout? If so, a retreat might not be the best option for you. The teacher might not be able to give you the kind of individual psychological care and support you need right now.

If you are currently under the care of a mental health professional, please discuss your attendance with them. You should be in a relatively stable period of mental well-being and have adequate psychological resilience.

Please fill in the questions in the registration form as open and honestly as possible, this will give us an idea of your current situation. The teacher of the event may reach out to you for more information

If you are unsure, or have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us directly at info@brusselsmindfulness.be.
