What does a learn to meditate weekend look like?

Take a break and use this weekend workshop as a mini-pause. Recharge your batteries through relaxing meditations and outdoor practices in our garden. Walk away with new tools to better handle the stress and difficulties in your life.

The focus of the workshop will be on learning to meditate in different forms: sitting, lying down, walking, moving, ... We will make time for sharing your experiences and asking your questions. While the main focus is on practicing there will also be an introduction into the main concepts of mindfulness and how you be more present for your life.

What does a learn to meditate weekend look like?

Why should I learn about meditating?

Many of us find it difficult to create a balance between the demands present in our work and personal lives. We need tools to help us deal with the stress and uncertainty present in our rapid lifestyle. It is important to develop mental resources in order to cope with the challenges we face and replenish our energy levels.

Practicing mindfulness meditation can contribute to a shift towards greater mental and emotional wellbeing. By learning to meditate, you learn to make a shift from endless thinking and worrying to dropping into your senses and connecting with the richness of the present moment. You learn to see more clearly how you unwillingly contribute to your own stress and unhappiness and you discover resources within yourself for more resilience and happiness.

For whom?

This workshop is intended for people who want to discover mindfulness meditation. If you have some experience with mindfulness, or you have done a course before, it might also be interesting as a refresher, especially if it has been a while since you've been practising.

In this weekend workshop you will learn how to

In this weekend workshop you will learn how to

  • Find inner resources of calmness and clarity that can help you manage stressful situations.
  • Be more in the present moment so that you can fully enjoy the lovely things in life
  • Deal more skilfully with difficult thoughts and emotions that might otherwise stress you out or drag you down.
  • Gain more focus and concentration
  • Reconnect to what matters in your life and find more calm and clarity in doing so.
  • Be kinder to yourself.

How to bring mindfulness skills into your life

The aim of mindfulness meditation is to acquire new ways of handling challenging feelings, thoughts, physical sensations, moods or social interactions.

A few examples of these are the following:

  • Finding peace in the midst of the turbulences of your life by learning to use your breath as an anchor.
  • Increasing your body awareness: using your body as a sensitive radar instead of an amplifier of stress.
  • Finding new ways of dealing with difficult thoughts and feelings and learning to shift to a more relaxing mode.
  • Practising how to step out of vicious cycles of worrying and getting more in control of your mind and your life.
  • Becoming aware of your inner critic and how to disengage from it, ultimately adding a softer and more compassionate inner voice.
  • Cultivating inner qualities of compassion, gratitude and care for yourself and others.

Rewiring the brain

Rewiring the brain

The mind is like a garden: if you leave it untended, it will grow all kinds of strange weeds. But if you take good care of it, you can pull the weeds and plant new seeds.

This is the essence of “neuroplasticity”, which means that we can rewire our brain by becoming more skilful in choosing where our attention rests upon. We can learn to change our brain for the better and activate areas linked to self-regulation, wellbeing, concentration, contentment and awareness, and less the impact of stress, fear and anxiety.

What are the benefits of mindfulness meditation?

The majority of people practising mindfulness meditation report lasting physical and psychological benefits including:

  • An increased ability to relax and to find inner calm.
  • Greater energy and enthusiasm for life.
  • Heightened self-confidence.
  • An increased ability to cope more effectively with stressful situations.
  • A greater sense of overall wellbeing.
  • A better immune system.

Important information on your mental well-being and silent retreats

While meditation retreats can be very nourishing; they do require sustained meditation practice throughout your time there. This also demands some stability of psychological health and can be triggering for some people.

Have you experienced significant trauma or psychiatric illness, or are your currently struggling with your mental health such as with anxiety, depression, or burnout? If so, a retreat might not be the best option for you. The teacher might not be able to give you the kind of individual psychological care and support you need right now.

If you are currently under the care of a mental health professional, please discuss your attendance with them. You should be in a relatively stable period of mental well-being and have adequate psychological resilience.

Please fill in the questions in the registration form as open and honestly as possible, this will give us an idea of your current situation. The teacher of the event may reach out to you for more information

If you are unsure, or have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us directly at info@brusselsmindfulness.be.
