The art of mindful living -summer weekend retreat

Summer retreat from Saturday 22 & Sunday 23 August 2020

Each day from 10.00 to 17.00 (lunches included, non-residential)

Would you like to take a break and recharge your batteries before the September rush? This semi-silent, non-residential retreat weekend is open to everyone who is looking for some peace and reconnection with their purpose before the busy working period starts again.

This retreat is open for advanced meditators who would like to boost their mindfulness practice as well as for beginners who are open to an intensive format.

With Beate Trück (mindfulness teacher)

Combine learning about living each moment in a mindful way with getting away in a beautiful, nourishing location closeby. Take a break before summer ends and use this weekend  as a mini-retreat. Focus on meditation and on reconnecting with yourself, as well as with like-minded people. Recharge your batteries through the power of mindfulness in the lush, large garden surrounding the retreat location and walk away with a renewed focus on mindful living to better handle the stress and difficulties in your life.

This retreat will provide you with a deep immersion into mindfulness in order to find inner peace and mental space. It is a great opportunity to take good care of yourself before the busy working season starts again. By practising mindfulness with a group of like-minded people you will be able to reconnect with yourself and what really matters in your life. You will learn how to tap into your inner calm which is inherently present with everyone. By practising mindfulness meditation you will discover or deepen strategies to live a more conscious and connected life when you go back home.

We will be practising various meditations in different forms from sitting to lying down and walking meditations, helping you to unwind and to ourish yourself from within. We will make time for sharing your experiences and asking your questions. There will be very little theory, the main focus is on discovering and practicing.

Many of us find it difficult to create a balance between the demands present in our work and personal lives. We need tools to help us deal with the stress and uncertainty present in our rapid lifestyle. It is important to develop sufficient mental resources in order to cope with the challenges we face and replenish our energy levels.

Practicing mindfulness meditation can contribute to a shift towards greater mental and emotional wellbeing. By learning to include mindfulness in everything you do, you learn to make a shift from endless thinking and worrying to dropping into your senses and connecting with the richness of the present moment. You learn to see more clearly how you unwillingly contribute to your own stress and unhappiness and you discover resources within yourself for more resilience and happiness.

We will be using mindfulness meditations and periods of silence to recharge ourselves from the busy periods earlier this year and to prepare for the new working season. Together we will step out of the 'doing mode' and switch to being and sensing. We will reflect on what has been helpful and good in the past months and what needs to be changed, replaced by new activities, or added to our life. What are the priorities I would like to set for the next months? How can I support my healing and growing? How can I find more time for myself again?

What does a retreat look like?

Being away from day-to-day demands and all the external chatter means time to reflect, to reconnect with your true self and with nature. When the part of you that wants to be in control and that is afraid of change is dominant, you are cut off from your deeper wisdom and intuition. But if you rest and create space to tap into your creative energy, you can get in touch with what truly matters and what kind of life you would really like to lead.

People have reported that long after the retreat they could still feel the benefits of it, and that this nourishing feeling goes on for quite a while. The retreat will be held in English. It will be partly in silence to deepen the healing power of mindfulness. At other moments participants will be encouraged to share what they experience or - if they wish - to journal.

You will be enjoying

  • The alternation of formal practices such as siting and walking meditation.
  • Daily yoga and stretching sessions.
  • Practices for deep relaxation.
  • Delicious vegetarian food that will support and nourish your body and mind.
  • A beautiful and peaceful location.
  • Free time to enjoy walks in the lush garden of the location.
  • A small group of like-minded people with whom you can share experiences and grow together.
  • Silence to encourage reflection and healing.

Some benefits of a mindfulness retreat

  • Tapping into your inner resources contributes to feeling more rested, relaxed and calm.
  • Learning how to gain greater physical and psychological wellbeing.
  • Powerful new insights to take back into your daily life in order to live more consciously.
  • A new sense of inner freedom and the ability to see more clearly what really matters to you.
  • Self-compassion and being on your own side.
  • Having an idea of how to stop some unhelpful habits in your life and how to replace them by more useful ones.
  • The ability to respond more skilfully to life's challenges when they arise.
  • Finding a way to peace and wholeness in this busy, stressful world we live in.

The mind is like a garden: if you leave it untended, it will grow all kinds of strange weeds. But if you take good care of it, you can pull the weeds and plant new seeds. This is the essence of “neuroplasticity”, which means that we can rewire our brain by becoming more skilful in choosing where our attention rests upon. We can learn to change our brain for the better and activate areas linked to self-regulation, wellbeing, concentration, contentment and awareness, and less the impact of stress, fear and anxiety.

The majority of people practising mindfulness meditation report lasting physical and psychological benefits including:

  • An increased ability to relax and to find inner calm.
  • Greater energy and enthusiasm for life.
  • Heightened self-confidence.
  • An increased ability to cope more effectively with stressful situations.
  • A greater sense of overall wellbeing.
  • A better immune system.
